Hello Readers! This is Jorge’s Portfolio! In the class I have learned a lot of valuable information and I will be sharing it with you here. Enjoy!
My learning outcomes are:
1.Compose texts that integrate the student’s stance and language with appropriate sources, using strategies such as summary, critical analysis, interpretation, synthesis, and argumentation
2.Locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias
3.Develop strategies for reading, drafting, revising, and editing
The course was quite fruitful with its content and it truly planted a seed from where I will grow into a better reader and writer. One of the things that it helped me learn was the incorporation of my stance and language with appropriate sources. With ease I was able to share my ideas and beliefs. All of that but doing so appropriately and good enough to be in the context of academic writing. So much of the content that helped me was within the courses’ readings, which were full of helpful information and had information about how to summarize, how to interpret and synthesize, as well as how to pose your argument and be able to analyze critically. In every single one of the papers for the class my stance had to be shared, even if it was straightforward or it had to be kept hidden, it still had to point somewhere. Being able to keep it vague and not just go with my sentiment and thoughts but actually use sources and back them up was the key.
One important aspect of the course was the content. How to get the content to be able to direct the conversation somewhere was of the most importance. To get quality sources and to share them appropriately is what solidifies a work well done from a mediocre one. That was one of the biggest strengths I developed. Finding sources and meshing them together, working one with another to empower certain points I would like to touch on helped in using the right strategy to build a proper argument though the sources. It is important that through the sources used, my personal taste can be shared, and that is why using sources with my own stance are present in my work but also of the ones with opposite views, so that every angle can be looked at, but so that my own view point ends up winning at the end. It was also of value that the sources variate where they come from but that they also have a solid argument and come from proper works and believable as well. This was only practiced for the ones that needed me to position my stance somewhere and not the creative ones.
In general though, me and academic writing and reading get along better now. It’s thanks to all the work that had to be done to understand and read and strategize and write. With all the content shared in the course I was able to develop the most accurate form of work in which I could share my ideas, mixing my stance with sources I liked and the format most adequate to share my information. IN this way I felt like I easily understood my ideas and developed them as well for others. Its all a process that at first looks messy but once practiced it truly made my work more efficient.
